2020 Upper Deck Marvel Masterpieces Checklist

2020 Upper Deck Marvel Masterpieces continues the painted-art tradition of the Masterpieces line, with a 90-card base set of heroes and villains sequentially numbered to 1,999 and a 10-card Canvas Gallery short-print run. Dave Palumbo's work runs through the release, from the base paintings to his own sketch comic covers and original art one-of-ones. Released September 10, 2020, it pairs the painted base with What If alternate-art and Preliminary Art parallels.

What's in the checklist

• Base: 90 cards numbered /1999, with Preliminary Art, Preliminary Art Gold Foil, Epic Purple Foil /199, Legendary Orange Foil /99 and Red Spectrum Foil /1, plus What If parallels at /1499, /999, /499 and /50 and Printing Plates
• Canvas Gallery: 10 cards (91–100) with Gold Foil /99, Red Spectrum Foil /25 and Printing Plates
• Inserts: Battle Spectra (15, with Gems /99), Holo Foil (20, with Speckle /99 and Kaleidoscope /25), a 90-card Metallurgy set and 9 Mirage Lenticulars
• Autographs and art: 90-card Silver Spectrum Foil and What If Artist Auto parallels, 16 Sketch Comic Covers by Dave Palumbo, sketch cards, Original Art and Preliminary Art Originals one-of-ones, and uncut sheets

Key characters

The base roster mixes headliners and deep cuts: Doctor Octopus, Quicksilver, Nighthawk, Man-Wolf, Jack Flag, Luke Cage, Jigsaw, Killmonger, Baron Zemo, Black Widow, Professor X and Daredevil. The Canvas Gallery set features X-23, Gambit, Spider-Man, Hulk, Mysterio, Black Panther, Thor, Thanos, Black Widow and Taskmaster.

Grading considerations

Canvas Gallery short prints and the low-numbered Legendary Orange and What If /50 parallels are among the cards collectors commonly consider for grading. Foil parallels show print lines and surface scuffs easily, and the thicker Mirage Lenticulars are prone to corner dings, so check both closely. See our grading scale.
